Ensuring Water Security in Kailali
The Impact of the WACT CCI-Water Boring Project

In light of the changing climate in Kailali Nepal, water security is becoming a critical issue for families and communities. The prolonged dry seasons and unpredictable rainfall patterns have made traditional farming increasingly difficult, threatening both food security and livelihoods.
Recognising this urgent need, the Welfare Association for Children Tikapur (WACT) Climate Change Integration (CCI) project in partnership with INF Nepal has focused on sustainable water management solutions, including the construction of community-level water irrigation tanks and household-level wastewater collection pits. These water boring initiatives are more than just infrastructure projects; they are lifelines that ensure the availability of water for irrigation even during the driest periods.

Through these efforts, the CCI project has significantly improved the resilience of local farmers, allowing them to continue cultivating essential crops like wheat, mustard, and vegetables despite challenging environmental conditions. The water irrigation tanks have enabled communities to maintain their agricultural activities, reducing the dependency on unpredictable rainfall and ensuring a steady food supply.
But the impact goes beyond agriculture. By implementing these water management systems, the project has also improved sanitation and overall health within the community. Wastewater that was once a source of contamination is now being repurposed for irrigation, reducing the presence of stagnant water and the associated health risks.
This project demonstrates the power of community-driven solutions. By involving local self-help groups in the planning and implementation stages, the CCI-water boring project has not only provided critical resources but also empowered the community to take control of their water management practices. This collaboration ensures the sustainability of the initiative and strengthens the community’s ability to adapt to future climate challenges.

Nepal experiences a significant higher impact from the changing climate in its region, so these projects are essential for building climate resilience for vulnerable communities.
In all this, we are reminded of the living water that Christ offers—a source that never runs dry, sustaining us through every season of life.
