Where and when did the earthquake strike?

On Friday 3 November 2023 a strong earthquake struck Jajarkot and surrounds in West Rukum, close to where INF Australia operates key projects.

What has been the impact and damage of the earthquake?

The true scale of the disaster in this remote, mountainous region will take some time to emerge. Over 100 people were killed in the initial shock, and many more injured. Thousands of homes and buildings were fully or partially destroyed. Many thousands of families have been left homeless and their livelihoods in tatters.

In the meantime, winter is approaching quickly, snow will fall soon, and there have been reports of deaths from the impact of the cold. Thousands of people continue to live in the open air, with nowhere else to go.

How is INF Australia responding to the devastation?

INF Australia has provided funds to our partners for immediate response. We will also be supporting rebuilding and recovery.

Our partners have already helped with medical support and emergency relief.

With the first phase of relief complete, our partners are working to provide building materials for temporary shelters,  tarps and warm clothes to those who need it.

The third phase will be focused on infrastructure and supporting psychosocial and livelihood recovery.
